Faxing a tax return
Will the IRS let me fax in my tax return?
Unfortunately, no. You have two basic options when it comes to filing your tax return: file it electronically, or mail it in.
Although taxes themselves can seem like an incomprehensible labyrinth sometimes, the government does try to make tax return filing fairly convenient. You can download and print the necessary forms at www.IRS.gov before mailing them in, or submit them electronically through the site. There are also online services, such as TurboTax, that will guide you through the forms and then submit your tax return for you for a nominal fee. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can visit a library or post office, or call the tax phone number to get your forms mailed to you.
Although the IRS will deny you the convenience of faxing in your taxes, the agency now allows the faxing of documents if you’re trying to resolve a tax inquiry. This can make interactions with the IRS a lot faster and smoother when you need to fax the IRS.
