Can I send faxes through email using Windows Fax and Scan?

Does Windows Fax and Scan provide a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) interface? Can I send faxes through Fax and Scan from Outlook or third party software by sending an email to it with a specially formatted address line?

I want to receive faxes on my iPhone. Are there any cool new apps?

I’ve heard there are faxing apps for smart phones. I’d particularly like to find a free fax app for iPhone, where receiving and sending faxes, as well as the app itself, are free.
