Can you fax a car title?
I’m trying to sell my car, and I have a buyer who’s already given me a down payment. But now he’s saying he needs a copy of the title. Can I fax that safely?
The question here is less whether you can fax a car title and more whether or not you should. There’s a lot of information on a car title that you don’t want to just give out, especially since the sale transaction hasn’t been remotely finalized.
That being said, there are some legitimate reasons why the potential buyer might be requesting a copy of the title. Most likely, the buyer needs a bank loan to finance the purchase. Banks will need to look at the title and make sure there are no liens and that everything checks out. If that’s the case, I’d recommend contacting the bank directly and asking them for their preferred method. If they want it faxed, you should be safe sending it to them.
