Having a Fax Machine and Fax Modem on the Same Line
Can I have a fax machine and computer fax modem on the same line so that the machine receives and sends and the computer sends, without them interfering with each other?
You can use one line for both purposes, but unfortunately not at the same time. While you’re on the modem, you won’t be able to receive faxes. Only one can receive at a time: the fax machine or the computer.
The solution is to make sure both devices aren’t in answer mode at the same time. That way, you won’t need a second line but will still be able to send and receive faxes when you need to.
Alternatively, it could be time to consider a move to an email-based faxing service.
