How to recycle a fax machine
My office is moving toward internet faxing, so I’m looking to get rid of our old fax machine. Is there a way to recycle it responsibly (but cheaply too)?
I applaud your desire to be environmentally conscious! Fortunately, there are quite a few companies that will be happy to help you dispose of your fax machine safely and responsibly.
The first step is to make sure that anything with sensitive information on it is removed. While fax machines usually only catalog the fax numbers, any fax machine that has a hard drive should have it removed before disposal.
The second step is to find a recycling center near you. A lot of electronic stores such as BestBuy and Staples have drop-off spots in various places. Some electronic recycling companies will pick up electronics for a fee. You can find a recycling center near you with sites such as Earth911. Also, watch for free Electronic Waste Disposal Days sponsored by your local government or waste facility. Search for your town and terms such as “Ewaste recycling locations.”
