Fax machine fails (but only for one number)

My fax machine works fine, except when I try to send a fax to one number. I’ve contacted the person, and she says the machine is working fine and isn’t being used when I’m trying to send. What’s wrong here?

The problem may be on either end. Always try the basic things first, as they’re the easiest to get out of the way. First, double-check with the recipient that you have the correct number. Then call the fax number on the phone and listen for the fax sound. If you hear static or a busy signal, the problem isn’t with you.

Next up, your recipient may have blocking preferences set up against your number. Have your recipient check the settings and history to see if you have been blocked by their machine (this is possible if either of you has bought or inherited a machine from another person or company).

Finally, make sure that your fax machine isn’t intermittently failing. If you use a splitter, that can sometimes cause problems. Remove all other machines from the line and plug your fax machine directly into the landline. Test your machine with a fax to the recipient after each fix attempt.
