How to Send a Free Fax?

I need to send a fax from my computer today. But I don’t often need to send faxes so don’t want to sign up for an account with an Internet fax service. (And I don’t have the time/patience to configure my computer’s fax modem.) Cheap, or free, would be great. What should I do?

Use FaxZero: a site that lets you send faxes to anywhere in the United States (including Puerto Rico) and Canada without signing up for anything.

FaxZero has two levels of service: the free level lets you send up to two faxes per day, of no more than three pages each. All you need to do is fill out the form, then verify your e-mail address. With the free service, an ad will appear on the cover page of your fax. If an ad is inapproproate for your situation (for instance, if you’re faxing a client or a resume to a potential employer,) you can use the premium fax option.

For $1.79, payable with Paypal, FaxZero’s premium fax option sends your fax of up to 10 pages, with no ad on the cover page. Either way, you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail message once your fax has been delivered. The whole process takes a minute or two of your time, without the need to sign up for anything or configure fax software on your PC.
