Fax Machine Won’t Send Fax

My fax machine won’t send faxes. I just get “this number may not be completed as dialed” message. I know the line is working because it’s receiving faxes just fine. What do I do?

It’s hard to say, and a lot of it will be trial and error. There are several things you can do depending on what machine you have and the settings you’re using. The first thing I would do is a reset. With the fax machine powered on, unplug the machine from the power source and then unplug the power source from the wall. Wait 30 seconds and then plug it all back in and turn it on.

While the line may technically be working, splitters can sometimes have a strange effect on fax machines. If you have anything else (like a phone or another machine) sharing the landline, remove them from the line so that it’s only the fax machine.

If you use an outside line connection, you might not be giving your fax machine enough time to connect to the recipient’s number. You can go into your Line Parameter settings and add a pause (P) after the 9 in your outgoing messages.

After trying each of these options, make sure you check the line and attempt an outgoing fax to see the effect.
